Hello there, and welcome to my artists blog. My names Rebecca and I’m the artist behind High Tide Illustrations, a business I started in 2018 after I finished my degree in textiles design. I paint watercolour illustrations, mainly inspired by the natural world, that I turn into art prints, stationery and gifts.
I decided to set up a blog as a way of documenting my creative journey for myself but also to connect and share more with my followers. Compared to Instagram, a fast paced, ever-changing world I find myself moving away from, I feel a blog is a slower paced, more mellow environment where you feel encouraged to pause, grab a cup of tea and sit for a while and read. This was one of the reasons why I was drawn to blogging as a way of documenting and sharing my creative journey instead.
Besides painting, I love to read as well as be out in the natural world whether that be walking, swimming, surfing or simply enjoying bird song in my garden. I find nature so inspiring which is why I am constantly drawn to it as my main art subject. Animals are a particular favourite of mine especially sea creatures so you will find many animal paintings in my shop.
My latest sea creature painting is a harbour seal. I painting this piece using watercolours and added some details using fine liner and a white Posca pen. It was inspired by my many, many trips to Cornwall over the years where I have seen lots of seals but never got round to painting a detailed one.
This painting is now available to buy as an art print here.
I will be sharing more of my creative journey with you in future posts, sharing glimpses behind the scenes, my inspirations and more so I hope you will pop by again sometime to see what I've been up too.
Speak soon,
Rebecca x
